Žermanice lies between Frýdek-Místek and Havířov. The dam of the Žermanice Reservoir on the Lučina River stands within its territory. The reservoir was built between 1951 and 1958.

The earliest mention of the municipality dates from 1450 and gives its name as Zylmanice. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Žermanice was built between 1843 and 1848.
