Střítež lies on the Ropičanka stream in the foothills of the Beskids. The railway line from Frýdek-Místek to Český Těšín passes through the municipality. Around 1,100 people lived there in 2025.

The first written mention of Střítež dates to around 1305. The Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel was built in 1806.
