Řeka lies in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The educational Godula Treasure Trail leads from Řeka along forest paths to Mount Godula. The municipality was established in 1664 on the pastures of Smilovice. Its name comes from the Ropičanka stream, formerly called Řeka. In 2025, the municipality had 553 inhabitants.

The evangelical chapel and cemetery were established in 1844. The municipal office is housed in the former evangelical school, built in 1872. The kindergarten in Řeka is a site of the Smilovice Primary and Nursery School.
